It all started when…

Jane was 10 years old and after her elder brother wanted a pet duck, her parents brought home a yellow labrador puppy (part lion) called Ski. Yes, there were jokes about his name and he lived a fantastic life going to work with Jane’s dad, whose just as obsessed about doggies as we are. Sadly, Ski went to rainbow bridge at aged 8. Then, lovely Jake arrived, their second lab. Jake had a softer personality, who also went to work, living to 15.  Both Ski & Jake were true friends and have never been forgotten. We still have Ski's first puppy collar.

Jane and I met in 1991, with a common passion for animals, both domestic and wild, as well as fitness. Although, Jane’s communication skills tend to be better with animals rather than people, her career has largely been in financial services, ranging from personal financial adviser, paraplanner, to compliance officer.

When our dogs asked us to move to Greatstone on the Kent coast in 2013, for the beach, we discussed starting our own pet services company. As we didn't know the area or people, Jane remained working in finance.

However, since RedRufus Pet Portraits was founded in January 2017, Jane has been working behind the scenes & joined Rick full time in August 2018
